After her parole ended, Gypsy Rose reflected on the past, apologized for her role in her mother's death, and addressed the former partner who committed the crime.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who became internationally known after her involvement in the 2015 murder of mother Dee Dee Blanchard, has officially completed her parole and shared a powerful message on Instagram:
"This new chapter is one of healing. Of growing. Of reclaiming my life."
In the post titled "Breaking the Silence," Gypsy reflected openly for the first time after the end of her sentence and said she took full responsibility for her actions:
"I accepted my punishment and the weight of my choices. I carried that burden for years. Now, I owe the past nothing more."
She also targeted her ex-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn – the man who stabbed her mother to death – calling him “a deeply disturbed man” who “knew very well the difference between right and wrong”. She stressed that he made his own decision to commit the murder and that “he is not exempt from the consequences”.
In 2015, Nicholas Godejohn murdered Dee Dee in her apartment while Gypsy hid in the bathroom. She was the victim of a severe form of abuse called "Munchausen by proxy," in which her mother forced her to use a wheelchair, shaved her head, and forced her to take unnecessary medications to make her appear seriously ill.
Gypsy also accused Godejohn of manipulative behavior even after his incarceration, citing shady relationships he had with other women while in prison, including a woman named Dawn Bowker, whom she says he "pulled into his strange world."
At the end of the post, she thanked those who supported her, but also those who doubted:
“You gave me the motivation to prove myself wrong. And I did. I'm still here. I'm stronger. I'm ready to live my life the way I want. Now there's nothing you can do... except watch me.”
