Michael Schumacher's family are planning legal action against a German magazine over an "interview" with the former Formula 1 champion, an interview that was created by artificial intelligence.
A spokesman for the Schumacher family, contacted by Reuters, pointed to the published interview and stressed that legal action would be taken.
The latest issue of Die Aktuelle ran a cover with a photo of a smiling Schumacher, headlined: "Michael Schumacher, first interview". It read below: "It seemed so real."
The alleged quotes from Schumacher read: “My life has completely changed since [the accident]. It was a terrible time for my wife, my children and the whole family."
"I was so hurt that I was in an induced coma for months because my body couldn't handle it all."
In the end, it was said that the entire interview was created by artificial intelligence.
Since Schumacher's accident, the family has maintained his privacy and released little information about his condition.
In December 2013, while skiing with his son Mick in the French Alps, Schumacher hit his head on a rock. Because he was equipped with a protective helmet, he managed to survive. After being in a coma, he underwent surgical interventions due to brain damage.
