Pregnancy is one of the most important moments in a woman's life, but also a period of great changes both physically and psychologically. During this period, it seems like everyone wants to "give you advice" and advice (especially in the first pregnancy) when in fact everyone's experience is different from someone else's.
An obstetrician-gynecologist for more than 25 years in the USA, Dr. A. Michael Coppa, has clarified the 5 most widespread myths about pregnancy.
1. MYTH: Morning worries go away around noon (it's about feelings of fatigue, nausea and vomiting in the first stages of pregnancy).
FACT: These sensations and symptoms are very normal and certainly not on a set schedule, so there is no reason to worry unless they have gone away after the first 3 months.
2. MYTH: It is dangerous to do physical activity, exercise, run or yoga during pregnancy because it can harm the embryo or fetus (unborn baby).
FACT: Doctors have suggested and will continue to suggest that pregnant women have a life of low to moderate activity (of course if you have no complications) because it helps in a simpler and healthier birth.
3. MYTH: You have to give up caffeine for 9 months.
FACT: Coffee can also be enjoyed during pregnancy, but certainly not to excess - a maximum of one cup a day. The products that should be definitely avoided, as you know, are cigarettes, alcohol and raw foods.
4 MYTH: A pregnant woman should feed as much as two people.
FACT: Of course, the consumption of caloric foods should be increased, but not excessively because it can have a negative effect (in addition to weight gain) for the mother and the fetus.
5. MYTH: You cannot have sexual relations.
FACT: According to doctors, sex during pregnancy is not dangerous, except in cases where the mother has problems with the placenta, the cervix or other health problems discovered during the previous visits.
Do not forget that for any questions or uncertainties, you should consult the doctor who follows your pregnancy because, as we mentioned above, every journey is different.
