Eurostat has published the price index of restaurants and hotels, measured according to purchasing power, where the average of the European Union (EU=100) is taken as the basis of comparison.

The most expensive country in Europe is Switzerland, where hotels and restaurants cost 168% of the European average. According to Eurostat, per capita spending on hotels and restaurants in 2021 in the European Union was 1,067 euros, while in Switzerland it exceeded 2,200 euros.

Portugal is one of the cheapest countries in the European Union to stay in hotels and go to restaurants, at about 73% of the European average.

Countries in the region are generally among the cheapest in Europe, with accommodation and food costing on average half or less of the European average. Albania and North Macedonia are not only the cheapest in the region, but also among the cheapest in Europe, with 46.2% of the European average.

Accommodation and food in Turkey is the cheapest in Europe, with only 42% of the European average.
