Meghan Markle has once again publicly discussed how she defines suicidal thoughts, drawing on her own negative mental health experiences.
The Duchess of Sussex, now 41, opened up at Alex Balwdin's NYC Gala 2022 about the fact that she once considered ending her life.
"As you can imagine, it's not an easy decision to make, but when you see no other way out, it becomes so difficult."
She added:
"I don't want anyone to feel alone. With all the challenging situations we've been going through in recent years, including the pandemic, it's no wonder there's an increase in people needing help. We should all, when we can and if we feel brave enough, just talk honestly about our experiences.”
Markle has revealed she "didn't want to be alive anymore" during the time she became the focus of the media following her relationship with Prince Harry and the drama that followed.
Internationally, about 800,000 people die by suicide each year. due to the stigma associated with suicide – and the fact that it is illegal in some countries – this figure is also likely to be an underestimate.
If you have these thoughts, talk to someone and see a mental health professional right away!
