"Friends" star Matthew Perry is being honest about his opioid addiction, which almost turned fatal a few years ago.
In an interview with People, the actor revealed that his addiction to alcohol had just begun when he joined the cast of "Friend" as Chandler Bing in 1994, when he was just 24 years old.
"I could kind of handle it, but the years went by and I was 34 years old, drowning in trouble. However, there were years when I was sober during that time. Season nine was the year I was sober all the time. And find some, in which season I was nominated for best actor? That made me understand something," he said.
Perry added that, at one point during his time on Friends, he was taking 55 Vicodin a day and didn't know how to stop.
When Perry was 49 years old (the actor is now 53), he had a colon problem from overuse of opioids. It put him in the hospital for weeks and almost killed him.
The actor says he was in a coma for two weeks and spent five months in the hospital.
"The doctors told my family I had a 2% chance of living," he said.
