No matter how much you might enjoy a midnight meal, eating late at night has extremely negative effects on the body.
A new study by researchers at Harvard Medical School and Women's Hospital in Massachusetts has found that eating late at night increases hunger, reduces calorie burning and is actually able to change the metabolism of adults who are overweight or obese, increasing body fat.
About 42% of adults in the US are considered obese and, as a result, at risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer and other diseases.
The trend is also a growing problem in Europe, where 59% of adults are overweight or obese, including 8% of children under five, according to the World Health Organization.
In a report published in May this year, the WHO revealed that obesity is causing 200,000 cases of cancer and 1.2 million deaths each year in Europe alone.
