A first-generation iPhone in its original box has sold for $35,414 at auction.
The iPhone was arguably the device that really launched Apple's business, and without it, the company wouldn't be what it is today.

When he introduced the smartphone, in 2007, Steve Jobs said that "iPhone is a revolutionary, magical product and that it is 5 years ahead of any other mobile phone".
This particular device was auctioned at RR Auction, which ended on August 18.

The product description states: "Genuine Apple iPhone 1st Generation, Unopened, Model A1203, Order MA712LL/A (8GB).
The first iPhone comes with dimensions of 115 x 61 x 11.6 mm and only 135 g in weight.

Why is it selling so much while the technology is advancing?
In the description of RR it is stated:
"Developed in secret, the original iPhone is the smartphone that transformed the industry, revolutionizing mobile design. This product put the Internet in our pockets and essentially launched the app market with the introduction of the App Store."
Meanwhile, an Apple iPod, the first product, was also sold on the auction site for $25,000.
