If you're into meditation, chances are you've heard that it acts like a powerful drug. But this statement is not so hyperbolic and amazing because according to the latest research, for people who have emotional pain, meditation gives more results than morphine.
During an experiment 75 people were divided into different pain management groups and control groups. After applying thermal heat to the skin, scientists found that the meditation group's physical pain intensity decreased by an average of 27% and emotional pain intensity was reduced by 44%. On the other hand, using placebo decreased by 11% (physical pain) and 13% (emotional pain).
Recent studies have shown that morphine reduces pain by only 22%, making meditation twice as powerful emotionally. This can also happen as a result of thinking that pain is a transient feeling like everything else.
It goes without saying that while you're suffering from a sprained ankle or a broken heart, it's best to take it easy and try this method before medication.
