Are you Albanian if you haven't heard of "testing watermelon" or squeezing the watermelon with your hand to see how good it will be? For Albanians, this fruit is certainly among the most favorite, so we are convinced that this information will be valuable for many of you.
To pick the perfect watermelon, in short, you need to get the "ugliest" one. Look for yellow discoloration, dark spots, and gray "bands."
Below, My Nguyen, chef and creator of My Healthy Dish, explains why.
According to Nguyen, picking the ugly watermelon is a foolproof method of picking the sweetest watermelon. Nguyen says her father taught her this trick when she was a child. "
3 indicators you should consider:
1. A big yellow sign
If you've avoided yellow spots on a watermelon until now, you've been wrong. The yellow part is the part that lies under the sun. The bigger the piece, the longer it has been ripening in the ground. Maximum ripeness means more flavor and more juice.
2. Thick fabric belts/ribbons
"The thick strap is caused by bee pollination, so if there are more straps, it will be sweeter," explains My.
3. Dark spots
Next, Nguyen says you'll be lucky if you're able to find a watermelon with a few (or many) dark spots.
"These dark spots indicate that the sugar is coming out, which is another sign that the watermelon is too sweet," she says.
This fruit should be juicy and sweet, not only for taste, but also for maximum moisturizing potential. Remember that watermelon contains up to 92%, making it one of the most enjoyable and delicious ways to hydrate.
