Millions of iPhone users may be eligible to receive payments, following the publication of a legal claim accusing Apple of secretly slowing down the performance of older phones.
Justin Gutmann, a consumer protection expert, claims the company tricked users into thinking it would improve performance, but in fact, slowed down phones. He is seeking nearly $ 945 million in damages for up to 25 million iPhone users in the UK.
Apple says it "never" intentionally slowed down product performance.
Gutmann says Apple introduced the phone battery management option in January 2017 set in the software update. He points out that information about this new option was not included in the description of the software update and the company failed to explain why the devices were slowing down.
"Instead of doing the honest and legal thing for their customers and offering a replacement, repair service or free compensation, Apple deceived people by putting an option in software updates which slowed down devices by up to 58%."
The models that are said to be affected are: iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6S, 6S Plus, SE, 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X.
Critics say the update pushed people to buy newer devices as their old phones slowed down.
Technology firms say these updates are essential to keeping devices safe and working at their maximum. In a statement, Apple said: "We have never done and will never do anything to intentionally shorten the life of any Apple product, or to harm the user experience."
