Students at a university's opening ceremony in Texas learned they were debt-free after an anonymous donor paid all of their school bills, Wiley College said.
"You are debt-free. You owe the college no penny. "If you have a balance, you have a balance," the university president said, cheering in a video posted on Twitter by Wiley College in Marshall, Texas.
Approximately 100 graduates were informed that their remaining balances, which together made a sum of $ 300,000, were zeroed out by a donor who decided to keep his identity secret.
"We are constantly communicating with donors to help students in these ways so that they can begin their post-college experience with less debt," said school president Herman J. Felton Jr. in a statement.
"We are grateful for this anonymous donor, who will assist students in settling their balances at Wiley College and help us achieve the institutional goals of graduating our students with little or no debt."
