If you have recently considered leaving Albania, you should consider the annual reports of "The Mental State of the World Report" which studies the levels of mental health for 34 countries in the world. After observing all the elements of mental health, mood, lifestyle and socialization for several years in a row, they have come to the conclusion that Spain is the right place to move if you want to be happier and more mentally calm.
- One of the main findings was that global mental health had a significant decline during the pandemic. Undoubtedly the severity of the measures against Covid-19 has affected in various countries that has worsened mental health, especially in the age group 18-34 years.
- It was also noted that mental well-being was poorer overall in English-speaking countries, while Latin American and some other European countries had higher levels of mental well-being.
- The other surprising result of this study was that countries with higher incomes had more mental health problems than countries with lower incomes per capita. This shows that while economic growth is a good thing of course, living in a society that is always looking for growth may not be good for mental well-being.
Of the 34 countries included in the study, the UK had the lowest mental health score compared to South Africa. The US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland also ranked in the top 10 countries for overall mental well-being.
- Latin American and Spanish-speaking countries came out with the highest mental health scores, with six Spanish-speaking countries in the top ten. Of the five European countries represented, three were ranked in the top ten: Spain in second place, Switzerland in fifth place and Belgium ranked eighth.
- One of the most shocking findings of the report was that the mental well-being of young people around the world continues to decline; in each country surveyed the decline is clearly discernible. Researchers point out that this may be due to the growth of youth in an internet-dominated and unequal world.
