Betty White, the actress known for her roles in the sitcoms "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "The Golden Girls," passed away at the age of 99.
White passed away at her home Friday morning, just two weeks before she turned 100 years old. Her agent, Jeff Witjas, told People magazine: "Even though Betty was almost 100 years old, I thought she would live forever."
White enjoyed a brilliant career of more than eight decades, receiving eight Emmy Awards, a Grammy and three Screen Actors Guild Awards. Considered a television pioneer, she opened the doors not only for herself but also for many other women.
Considered the first woman to direct a single television show, her name became even more popular in the 1970s, when "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" made Betty White a household name. Her role as Rose Nylund in "The Golden Girls" strengthened her status as a legendary television actress.
