A recent warning from the Integrated Food Security Classification (IPC) system highlighted that people in most of the Gaza Strip are suffering from extreme hunger, while acute malnutrition has escalated in Gaza City. The warning warns of a severe famine scenario currently unfolding in the region.
After more than 21 months of war and a five-month blockade that has severely limited access to food, water and medical supplies, the humanitarian situation in Gaza is alarming.
In response to this warning, France announced the launch of food aid flights to Gaza. President Emmanuel Macron stated on X:
"We just conducted a food aid flight over Gaza, but that is not enough. Israel must allow full humanitarian access to prevent starvation."

Several tons of aid will be delivered in the coming days, according to a joint statement from the French Foreign and Defense Ministries. They are also working to organize ground transport, which is the most efficient solution for delivering aid in bulk and without obstacles.
The United Nations estimates that Gaza needs about 500 aid trucks per day, with each truck carrying 15-20 tons of goods.
This initiative comes after Macron's announcement that France will recognize the State of Palestine at the UN General Assembly in September.
The situation in Gaza remains dramatic. In the last 24 hours, hospitals reported seven deaths from hunger and malnutrition, including children. The total number of deaths from hunger since the start of the war has reached 159, 90 of whom are children.
Israeli airstrikes also continue, causing hundreds of injuries and fatalities. Meanwhile, many Palestinians have lost their lives and been injured while trying to receive food from distribution points managed by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, a US- and Israeli-backed structure that has replaced the UN humanitarian system in the region.
