For sensitive skin, but not only: How to do 'skin detox' 3-7 days!

We have all heard the word "detox" mentioned everywhere: detox drinks, detox treatments, supplements, etc. When it comes to skin, there can be a lot of confusion in what context "detoxification" is used. 

Because the skin is the largest organ in the body and therefore can collect impurities and stains, some believe that it is possible to "cleanse" the skin and remove all the "bad" things that clog pores. 

"There is no such thing as detoxifying the skin from a medical perspective," says board-certified dermatologist Dr. Fayne Frey. What you can do is protect it from potential environmental toxins, such as pollution and UV rays.

But, nevertheless, there is a kind of skin detox and it is more about the "surface" than to clean what is inside, according to dermatologist Ross Perry.

Why? Because toxins cannot leave the body through the skin.

So how is detox done?

Dr. Caren Campbell says that "the skin may need you to stop certain products". In this context, detoski makes sense. For 3-7 days keep a kind of "fast" for the skin: No makeup, no sunscreen, no retinoids. 

The idea is to stop using all the products you use and let the skin barrier heal and breathe. All the active ingredients and chemicals that you have been using on your face may have damaged the top layer of your skin, causing: allergies, irritations, etc.

What can you use?

- You can decide to use cleanser and moisturizer or you can simply rinse the skin with water. 

During this time, get enough sleep, limit long showers: Too hot water does not help. Even aggressively washing the skin is not good.
