Immediately after the alarm given by the European Union, the withdrawal of some brands of packaged ice cream from the market started in the country. After the confirmation that some species had carcinogenic contents, their distribution in the local markets was stopped immediately.
The presence of ethylene oxide, a carcinogenic substance and very dangerous to human health, has been found in many well-known brands dealing in the ice cream and chocolate trade.
According to AKU, these products entered Albania in the period March-May 2021, before the EU sounded the alarm, while their collection from markets across the country has already begun. After withdrawing and collecting them, the amount of ice cream is expected to be disposed of.
So far it is reported that there are about 36 tons of ice cream with carcinogenic content that need to be blocked urgently, as ice cream is one of the most sought after products this season, especially by children.
