Simone Biles will compete in the final round for women's gymnastics medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
"We are very happy to confirm that tomorrow you will see two American athletes in the balance beam final - Suni Lee AND Simone Biles! We look forward to seeing you both, ” USA Gymnastics announced .
Biles qualified for the quarterfinals of artistic gymnastics, scheduled for August 1-3 but withdrew from the race due to mental health.
"She is so proud that she has the courage to try it again and face her fear. It does not matter the result, it is a great achievement. "She does not have to prove anything to us," someone wrote on Twitter. "She can show up, stay on the beam for a while and leave and I will still be proud," reads another comment.
Simone Biles showed an example of courage as she announced her decision to retire from the Olympics to protect her body and mind. She told reporters she was experiencing some " twisties ", an informal term that refers to a mental blockage a gymnast may experience while moving in the air.
When one experiences "twisties," there is a disconnect between the brain and the body, Jamie Shapiro, a certified mental performance trainer, told Health. "The body knows what to do and motor programs are stored in the brain, but the brain has trouble accessing those motor programs," she explained.
Widely known as the best gymnast in the world, her case was long commented as an example of courage and strength.
