Exercising helps you maintain a healthy weight, increases concentration and energy, and helps improve heart and brain health. However, many women experience some side effects, such as "exercise vagina".
This term is not a medical condition, but describes vaginal discomfort caused by exercise. The vulva and vaginal area produce sweat, which can cause discomfort, especially if you wear inappropriate clothing.
Symptoms can be mild or severe, depending on the type of exercise, its intensity, and how often you exercise. Symptoms may include:
- itching
- redness
- irritation
- vaginal pain
- strong odor
Many women do not think about vaginal health when exercising - until something goes wrong. Here are some things you can do to help ease the way.
1. Cleaning: If you find it impossible to take a shower directly after exercise, at least change your underwear and wear other clothes.
2. Wear proper workout clothes: Wear cotton underwear and choose looser clothes that remove moisture.
3. Stay hydrated before, during and after the gym.
4. Use intimate hygiene products.
Slight itching or vaginal irritation after strenuous exercise is not strongly troubling. If symptoms persist, do not expect them to go away on their own. You may have an infection.
