Mikhail Romanov, a member of the party currently ruling Russia, filed a complaint about the ads posted by Dolce & Gabbana, the press service of the St. Petersburg courts said. The video was part of the Italian fashion house's global campaign "Love is love".
Same-sex relationships are legal in Russia, but a 2013 law prohibits the spread of "propaganda on non-traditional sex" among Russian youth. Human rights groups have condemned the legislation, saying it has helped increase social hostility to homosexuality. Dolce & Gabbana declined to comment on the case.
On May 14, the press service for the St. Petersburg courts said the prosecutor had filed a complaint demanding that one of Dolce & Gabbana's Instagram ads showing two girls kissing be banned in Russia. In a statement, the press office said the allegation stated that the video "contains information that refutes family values ??and promotes non-traditional sexual relations."
Case information will be further updated on June 7th. In 2018, Dolce & Gabbana was forced to cancel a show in China amid a backlash against an advertising campaign that was decorated as racist by celebrities even on social media and led to e-commerce sites in China boycotting the firm’s products.
