Surely you have heard about the benefits of meditation and know at least someone who practices it, but you do not know where to start or you have tried it and you just did not feel that you became part of that process. Do you want to try it? Here's how to prepare for successful meditation:
Use an app: "For anyone new to meditation, I recommend starting with guided meditation," says Nathalie Walton, a meditation expert. There are a variety of options out there, from Open and Expectful (if you are pregnant), to Insight Timer, Headspace, Calm, etc.
Start small, but be consistent: You do not want to feel overwhelmed by the tasks ahead. This is why you should start with a 5 or 10 minute meditation. Then, choose a time that works with your daily routine and commit to it for three weeks. After that, re-evaluate and see if you want to continue, add time etc.
Relax: It is easier to develop a consistent practice if you like to come to "your place of meditation". Create a pleasant, cozy and simple environment - a corner to go to with pleasure.
Don’t worry about “emptying your mind”: This is not something you can do and it can be frustrating to try to clear your mind completely. The purpose of meditation is simply to notice your thoughts and let them go - not to erase them or try to stop them from appearing. Let it flow as a natural process.
Create your own playlist (your playlist): "Sometimes it 's easier to get involved when we have and know what to listen to. Combine some meditation audio, jargon sounds or anything that helps you go deeper, faster.
Get Support: Work with a mentor or teacher who can guide you in the safest and most supportive ways to approach meditation in person. If you are a trauma survivor or experiencing high anxiety for example, you will want to work with someone who understands that sitting meditations can be uncomfortable for you. They will show you options that probably feel better, like meditation through walking or something else.
Remember: There is nothing strange if you find it difficult. Meditation will not always be easy. Be patient with yourself and move on. Watch as many videos with different teachers as possible to see what works and what doesn't for you.
Do not give up: There are so many variations of meditation that it is certain that there is something that seems to have been done especially for you.
