One of the most discussed issues during the pandemic period, has been the natural immunity that is created on the basis of anti-bodies. Epidemiologist Ilir Alimehmeti through a status on Facebook, has shared with people what he calls good news.
According to recent studies, individuals who have once taken Covid-19 are protected from re-infection for up to 12 months after the onset of symptoms.
"Natural immunity evolved over hundreds of thousands or millions of years works quite well, despite media and pseudoscientific criticism of it. The longer the time elapses since the onset of SARS-CoV-2 in the population, the longer the studies on natural immunity in persons who have passed the infection become. Recently, a study conducted in the Faroe Islands (autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark) followed at the population level all persons who passed COVID-19 during the first and second waves.
The main finding? The natural response of Covid-19 antibodies lasts up to 12 months.
Similar to other studies they find that IgG antibody levels drop pretty much during the first 7 months. "After 7 months, the antibodies continue to fall, but the rate of decline slows down, remaining relatively stable in the period of 7 to 12 months after infection." - writes the doctor.
Among other things, he added that in the studies conducted, the level of antibodies did not show differences between men and women in the course of time.
"Our results show that individuals who have taken Covid-19 are more likely to be protected from reinfection for up to 12 months after the onset of symptoms and possibly longer."
