Some scientists in Israel are creating plant-based meat that contains fat, blood and muscle. By mimicking the structure of beef, steaks are being created by powerful 3D printers. The process is accomplished by obtaining protein from plants which are then constructed in layers by the printer to produce a completely plant-based steak.
"We analyze the various components that make up meat cuts and try to figure out what key elements we need to mimic them in order to achieve those meat cuts. We have identified three main components: muscle, blood and fat. These are the three elements we need to follow to achieve the perfect steak, ”says Alexey Tomsov, a food engineer at RedefineMeat .
The machine can print up to 6 kilograms of meat per hour, but the goal is to create the equal amount of meat that can be obtained from one cow each day. The company is planning to test the meat in restaurants this year.
Eschar Ben Shitrit, CEO of Redefine Meat, says: “Our technology can create muscular cuts of meat, just as a cow produces them, but in a more efficient and less costly way. That way, it's better for the environment. "
It is hoped that the use of technology that will create realistic meat will help with the problems of food shortages in the world. There is a long way to go before this type of "hi-tech" meat is created and grown in laboratories in large quantities. Sufficient production to help create an entirely new food system is the future. However, a good portion of people seem to be skeptical and think that nothing can replace real meat. Others are more interested in knowing its contents and the nutritional value that this type of food contains.
