In an interview for A2, the director of the Center for Educational Services, Rezana Vrapi, explained why some questions in the Albanian language and literature test had alternatives next to each other. The question was asked by Casey Spahiu, a graduate of the "Sami Frashëri" gymnasium in Tirana. According to Casey, some questions were very subjective - so they left room for open answers - and the alternatives were similar.
"I understand the graduates at the moment and it is true that the alternatives may be close, but the difference between one graduate who catches the idea and another who does not catch it, means that one has the competence and the other does not. We must keep in mind that in the Albanian language and literature tests we do not control the knowledge which is identically learned from the book, but the way this knowledge is used in everyday life situations. Graduates should carefully read the application, as details are there. Of course, some alternatives should be similar, depending on the level of the question. " - said Vrapi.
In the following, she also explained the types of questions based on the respective level:
"If the question is solved by all graduates, then it is of the first level. But if we want 50% of graduates to be selected for a question, at least 2 alternatives must be very close to each other, otherwise we cannot make a difference. In the third level questions, there should be 3 alternatives close to each other, which should be chosen by 20% of graduates, or even 5%. These are questions that should make a difference, otherwise we will all come out with 10. There are no questions that are solved by everyone. There are low, medium and high level questions. An eighth grade student will go up to 40 test points. A tenth student will start with 50 points. But a student who gets 50 points is not the same as one who gets 58, despite the fact that both are with 10. The one who gets 58-60 is a student who catches these high level questions, which should be at least 4% -5%. "
