The Minister of Education, Besa Shahini has reacted through a status on Facebook, regarding the story of the 15-year-old child abused by the school guard.
Shahini, initially stressed that all the school staff who were aware of this story have been fired and the general investigation at the school is continuing.
"I am heartbroken for every case of sexual harassment or abuse of minors, which we have not been able to prevent," wrote the minister, who lists the measures taken so far after the event.
1- Suspension or dismissal of the MANAGER, of all staff and school who have been directly or indirectly involved in these cases (including managers, psychologists or caretakers who have not been involved in the case but have had a duty take care of the well-being of students)
2- In-depth investigation of the general situation in the school through interviews with students, parents and the school community.
3-Providing psycho-social service, and general school and post-school support for victims of harassment or abuse.
Among other things, Shahini added that all reported cases have been convicted, but the main problem, according to her, is the culture of concealment and rejection until it is too late.
"But there is clearly a culture of concealment and non-reporting, until it's too late. That's what we're aiming to change, at least in school, in spaces that should be safe for all children."
I want to repeat the message I gave on Monday: I congratulate our students who have found the courage to denounce the bullying, violence or abuse they have experienced. This is the only way for adults and institutions to condemn this violence and ensure that it does not happen again in the future.
Victims often do not denounce the violence they have experienced because they feel guilty or ashamed of what happened to them. BUT THE WAY AND THE TURPISH DETERMINE THE ABUSE! "
One of the measures taken so that cases like this of the 15-year-old do not happen again is the doubling of psychologists and social workers in schools, specially trained in the issue of sexual harassment and abuse. Another measure is to launch an awareness campaign for students, to acquaint them with the protection provided by the regulation of pre-university education and the Criminal Code.
