Like most activities, gyms are expected to open in the future, but the situation is still unclear. If masks and gloves can be easily held in many different businesses, centers, or settings, the same cannot be said for gyms, where the use of masks - which make breathing difficult - makes it impossible to exercise.
In an interview with Opinion, Eugena Tomini, head of the Infectious Diseases Surveillance Sector at the Institute of Public Health, said that "as in any other activity, physical distance is important." Tomini said there was no set date for the opening of the gyms, but "it is being studied when they can be opened".
In terms of distance, there should be 1 person in the gym for 3 square meters and people should be 2 meters apart. Tomini said that there should be a distance with the coaches as well, a distance that is well understood by both parties.
