A journalist from Kosovo, who instead of the word "identity card" used the term "identity card", encouraged Alban Skënderaj to write something about this phenomenon of the Albanian language, in the comparative level between Kosovo Albanians and Albania.
"I am writing this time because if I leave it I will forget as always. As soon as I saw on TV that a Kosovo journalist (influenced because she was speaking to the Albanian public) used the word 'identity card' and not an ID card, which is the same word, but in ALBANIA and Kosovo, unlike here, it is used regularly. ". - wrote Skënderaj.
In the following, the singer said that "Albanians suffer from inferiority complex" and this according to him explains the use of foreign words.
"Please in Kosovo and not only, do not be influenced by Albania that suffers from the inferiority complex with these useless loans. We are the ones who should take an example from you for the way you pronounce the words with so much logic, simplicity and responsibility. The same thing has happened in recent years with words like 'highway' and so on. It's a long topic and the examples are endless and banal. "
Aware that he does not have the knowledge of a linguist, Albani added:
"I have lived abroad for many years and I do not have the baggage of a linguist, I am also wrong, but I have good will, especially in such obvious cases! It is not unreasonable for me to discuss foreign words that have entered us for years and centuries for historical reasons, when the vast majority of the population was illiterate, but it is childish irresponsibility to introduce foreign words without criteria, especially in the media and written, television even in institutions in 2020. ?
What Albani wrote stands. Kosovo Albanians, certainly motivated by historical-political reasons, have been more careful in preserving the Albanian lexicon. Of course, even in the dialect of Kosovo, there is no lack of foreign words, mainly Serbian and English, but on the other hand, the field of Albanian words - which we can also consider as archaic - is great. Suffice it to mention terms such as pharmacy - pharmacy or confectionery - confectionery to understand the difference.
However, Albanian, like all other languages, has changed over time and space. Some words have entered as ready-made terms from foreign languages and have simply been adapted into Albanian, because finding a corresponding term has been seen as impossible - for example a computer, with which keyboard or mouse words have entered.
However, although sometimes Albanian does not make it easier for you to replace foreign words, because cycling is better than cycling, there are a lot of words that can easily replace foreign words, for example: permanent - permanent, inspiration - inspiration, assist - participate, axis - road line, abuse - misuse and others.
