While the future remains unpredictable, people have tried to predict it in their own ways. Throughout the 1900s, designers and illustrators have tried to show what the "houses of the future" look like in the years in which we live.
How did people of the past think of the modern home?
1. In the early 1900s, people believed that wardrobes in the 21st century would have robotic arms that would help you while you were sitting.
2. In the 1950's it was thought that everything inside a house of the future would be against water. A water hose would do the job for you, but it didn't.
3. It was thought that the kitchen would have rotary stoves. Everyone could cook a dish on their own.
4. The bedrooms would be furnished with very futuristic furnishings.
5. And the game rooms would look like this. A huge space that shares reality with fantasy.
6. In the 1980s it was thought that bathrooms would be housed in an area called the "sewer room" and would have more or less this design.
