Every year, the third Monday of January is called "Blue Monday". According to this theory, on this day of the year we are all cold, with no money in our pockets, and burdened with guilt over everything that happened at the end of the year. This Monday finds us in constant striving to remove the kilts taken, drink less alcohol and become a better person.
But is Blue Monday really the most depressing day of the year or just a marketing strategy?
The concept was originally created in 2004 by psychologist Cliff Arnall. He came up with a formula that "explained" the factors that influence blue Monday. Weather conditions, holiday debts, expenses, low motivation or the feeling of doing something are said to make the third Monday of the year the most dreadful day.
This theory, despite its veracity, has proved fantastic as a marketing strategy. People cure depression these 24 hours through good foods, beauty treatments or buying new clothes.
However, it is a sunny day for us and the date is January 20th. There is still time for the end of the month to come, so be careful with the costs.
