One of the biggest problems for women of color in the British workforce is oppression. A toxic combination of sabotage and underestimation causes many women to resign before being fired, preferring to leave on their own. Circumstances like these have influenced the recall of a new generation of colored entrepreneurs in the United States.
Therefore, women of color were not surprised when Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry announced that they would be stepping down from their roles in the royal family, an extremely elitist institution. This story has been told since the beginning, but this time, it cannot be ignored.
And of course, those who pushed Meghan to take this step now pretend to be surprised that their words had exactly the result they intended.
Ever since Meghan joined Harry in 2016, it has been scrutinized by the media with excessive analytics that could rarely be called accurate. British tabloids wrote about her, not to convey a news, but to disintegrate her image. Meghan has been dismantled and rebuilt dozens of times as a wicked cartoon, her faults and transgressions are endless. Its crimes have no form, change all the time and sometimes contradict themselves; I used to look like a hardened liberal, once a money-hungry hyenas who would climb the stairs, depending on the audience. Many were hoping that the birth of the boy, Archie, would somehow soften the media, but it didn't.
British racism is often hidden and coded, but for Meghan, there was no need to break it down. The hatred was noted in headlines referring to the neighborhood where Meghan grew up "flooded with criminal gangs" and her role as editor-in-chief of Vogue as "disruptive."
And the most painful thing of all is that we were all waiting for it and knew it couldn't be avoided. Even if it had been a mixed race without a career in Holywood, if she had always worn dresses down her knees, had she not eaten avocados, and kept tents around herself to hide her pregnancy belly, even had he done dozens of other absurd things to please the press, would this result have been avoided? The tabloids would have found a way to talk about it negatively. It is therefore being labeled greedy, even though it promised to work to be financially independent. Meghan had the fortune written.
Britain has just appointed a prime minister with a racist past and removed a mixed race Duchess because it is a racist state. The kingdom has become increasingly difficult to safeguard.
And notice how quickly Harry and Meghan's joint choice began to be discussed only as Meghan's choice. Current media coverage calls it "devastating families," Lady Macbeth whispering poison to the prince. The Daily Mail, which filled 17 pages with the event, called the prince's change "from a fun guy to the Prince of Law." The fact that Meghan is sensitive to racial and gender injustices is described by the media as tainting the prince. Their 8-month-old son is widely credited with being the catalyst for the decision - though he was compared to a chimpanzee by a BBC moderator the day he came to life.
Don't be fooled: Racist, sexist and classist media abuse has removed the couple from the kingdom.
We will not, however, learn from our mistakes. When the news broke, everyone found a culprit, but no one blamed the media. "I think social media is to blame," commentator Claudia Joseph told The Independent. "If you read Meghan's posts on Twitter, she immediately knows why she's leaving," she continued, as if she couldn't find similar comments in newspapers or portals.
Noticing the irony, the media has continued to publish ruthless articles. Harry lost his mother as a result of tabloid behavior. At least he learned a lesson from this whole story.
