The former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe could not escape the wounds received after the assassination attempt and died in the hospital. Abe, 67, was shot while giving a campaign speech in the city of Nara.
During a press conference, doctors said they tried for four and a half hours to save Abe, but during the intervention they could not find the two bullets that are believed to have hit him in the right side of the neck as well as near the heart.
Shinzo Abe was Japan's longest-serving prime minister, only to step down in 2020 after health problems. Even after his resignation, the former head of Japan had great influence on the current government. For example, when Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine, Abe went public and said that Japan needs to increase its military spending.
After the news of the death, all the world leaders started their condolences for the former prime minister, shocked by the tragic event.
Such attacks are extremely rare in Japan, which makes what happened even more serious. Regarding the author, the police have arrested a 41-year-old man as the main suspect for the attack.
