Brad Pitt is dealing with a major family loss. His mother, Jane Etta Pitt, has passed away at the age of 84, the actor's niece, Sydney Pitt, announced in a heartfelt Instagram post.
"We weren't ready to let you go yet, but the thought that you are now free to sing, dance and paint again makes the pain a little easier," she wrote, adding that her grandmother "loved everyone unconditionally."
Jane Pitt, born in Memphis in 1940, was an elementary school teacher and known for her artistic spirit. She met her husband, William Pitt, at Oklahoma Baptist University, and together they raised their three children, Brad, Doug and Julie, in Springfield, Missouri. The family remembers Jane as a gifted artist who created unforgettable memories with her 14 grandchildren through her paintings.
Brad, who has often mentioned his relationship with his mother, has dedicated some beautiful public moments to her over the years. Just a few months ago, during an interview on the "Today Show," he gave her a live salute:
"My mom watches this show every morning. I love you, Jane Pitt!" the actor said, smiling and blowing her a kiss.
Brad Pitt has often described his mother as very loving and caring. As her granddaughter said, Jane was a mother, grandmother and woman with a big soul, who left behind a legacy of love and memories for all who knew her.
