Doctors show the sweets they eat the most and those they avoid

For people who love sweets, sugar is an essential part of life, but doctors eat sweets too.

By being careful with the ingredients selected in the recipes, they themselves tell us the secrets. Six doctors reveal the sweets they consume the most, but also the ones they avoid.

"I definitely eat sweets and I can't deprive myself of this pleasure," says Elizabeth Comen, an oncologist.

"I limit myself to added sugars during the week as I like to have dessert after dinner. It gives me a sense of satisfaction and helps me sleep more soundly,” says Jasmine Singh Sukumar, a physician at the Texas Breast Cancer Center.

What are the sweets that doctors consume the most and what do they avoid?

Fruit tart

Desserts with fresh seasonal fruits, such as apples or pears in autumn, are ideal to fill the tart you make at home. A plum tart with a sugar coating can be a solution, because plums are healthy and delicious.

Frozen yogurt with fruits and nuts

When doctor Mona Bahouth wants something sweet, she chooses fresh fruit like berries or apples. But often a frozen yogurt filled with delicious fruit is a super find.

A small bowl of berries, nuts and chocolate

Cardiologist Helene Glassberg is a chocolate lover, so to satisfy her sweet tooth she mixes antioxidant-rich berries, salted almonds, walnuts and peanuts in a bowl and the result is a healthy dessert.

Cheesecake, with substitutions

Oncologist Comen says she likes to experiment in recipes with healthier ingredients, like using applesauce or yogurt. There are plenty of recipes online, she explains, and there are ways to substitute ingredients that don't sacrifice taste, but neither do they sacrifice health. "For example, I recently made cheesecake with Greek yogurt, low-fat cream cheese and it was great."

Grilled seasonal fruit

Fruits such as peaches or pineapples can be grilled very well. They become sweet and almost caramelized when grilled.

ice cream

There are always feelings of "sin" when it comes to ice cream! A cup of vanilla or chocolate is delicious when consumed in the right amount without overdoing it.

Sweets that doctors avoid:

Processed foods, those that stay long on store shelves and are full of preservatives or fats are what doctors avoid. So, in other words, homemade desserts with fresh ingredients, from fruit to yogurt or cookies can always be a healthy choice for you.
