Madonna says she feels lucky 'to be alive' after hospitalisation

A month after Madonna was rushed to hospital with a bacterial infection, the queen of pop has reflected on how her loved ones are helping her recover.

"Love from family and friends is the best medicine," Madonna wrote in an Instagram post on Sunday, showing a series of photos with two of her six children.

"I saw a side of them that I had never seen before," she wrote of the children.

She thanked the people who stood by her and said she realized "how lucky I am to be alive". "And thanks to all my angels for protecting me and letting me stay to finish my job!" she concluded.

Madonna has a daughter, Lourdes Leon, with Carlos Leon and a son, Rocco Ritchie, with director Guy Ritchie. She is also the mother of four adopted children - David Banda, Chifundo "Mercy" James and twins Stella and Estere.

Madonna was hospitalized in June after suffering from a severe bacterial infection. She was planning to start her international tour, "Celebration", in October.
