Brazil/ Former president arrested
Jair Bolsonaro, the former president of Brazil, was arrested by authorities at his villa in Brasilia, following an order from the Federal Supreme Court. His supporters had planned to organize a “vigil” outside the luxury apartment where Bolsonaro has been living under house arrest since August of this year. The party was requested by his son, Flavio.
Bolsonaro was sentenced in September to 27 years and 3 months in prison for orchestrating a coup to prevent Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the winner of the 2022 election, from taking power.
Gaza/ Israel continues attacks; kills 21 Palestinians
Israeli airstrikes have resumed in Gaza, killing 21 people. The Israeli military has resumed bombing since Wednesday, despite agreeing to a ceasefire under a US-brokered plan. Both Hamas and Israel accuse each other of violating the ceasefire.
Israel announced that it had struck Hamas targets in retaliation and Benjamin Netanyahu further stated that 5 important people in the ranks of Hamas had been killed.
Ukraine responds to Moscow
Ukraine has struck a major power plant in the Moscow area. The attack was carried out by unmanned drones and the consequences of the attack were severe. The Shatura power plant is located 120 km east of Moscow and caused panic in the area.
Andrey Vorobyov, the governor of Moscow, said some of the drones were destroyed and the fire was brought under control. Ukraine carried out similar attacks on Russian territory on November 22, targeting strategic areas and Russian infrastructure.
North Macedonia/ Trial begins against 35 people for Kocani massacre
The trial for the Kocani nightclub tragedy has begun. The massive fire killed 63 people, mostly young people, and injured nearly 200 others. The hearing will be held in Skopje, in the Isdrovo prison courtroom, with very strict security measures.
The trial will feature the verdict of 35 people, with various indictments ranging from dereliction of duty, false certificates and involuntary manslaughter. Among the defendants are the club owner, 2 former ministers of economy, 3 former mayors, as well as several state officials.
