France and Britain confirm sending troops to the ground after ceasefire in Ukraine

France and the United Kingdom have confirmed the deployment of their soldiers on Ukrainian soil after a final ceasefire, as part of a wider package of security guarantees for Kiev, to avoid a repeat of a full-scale Russian invasion in the future.
The commitment was signed in an official statement by French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the end of a "Coalition of the Willing" meeting in Paris on Tuesday.
"I can say that after a ceasefire, the United Kingdom and France will establish military centers throughout Ukraine and build protected facilities for weapons and military equipment to support Ukraine's needs," Starmer said.
Macron said troops would be deployed in the air, sea and land to provide the "security" needed to prevent Russia from attacking Ukraine again. Turkey, he said, would provide naval support.
European leaders support Greenland, as US steps up threats

European leaders have united in support of Denmark and Greenland, after one of Donald Trump's top aides suggested the US might be prepared to take control of the territory by force.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz declared that Greenland, a semi-autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark, "belongs to its people."
"It is the duty of Denmark and Greenland to decide on matters concerning Denmark and Greenland," the three leaders said in a statement on Tuesday, made jointly with the prime ministers of Denmark, Italy, Poland and Spain.
About 24 Venezuelan security officers killed during US operation to capture Maduro, Caracas says

These figures were reported by officials in Venezuela on Tuesday.
Venezuela's Attorney General, Tarek William Saab, said "dozens" of officials and civilians were killed and that prosecutors would investigate the deaths in what he described as a "war crime."
He did not specify whether the assessment referred specifically to Venezuelans.
The death toll for Venezuelan security officials comes after Cuba's government announced on Sunday that 32 Cuban military and police officers working in Venezuela had been killed in the operation, prompting two days of mourning on the Caribbean island.

A mass rally by ultra-Orthodox Jews against military conscription turned deadly in Jerusalem on Tuesday, when a teenage boy died after being crushed when a man driving a bus plowed into the crowd.
Israeli police said they have detained the driver and are investigating the case.
Video of the scene shows a bus plowing straight into a crowd of ultra-Orthodox men at the demonstration, which was attended by thousands of people.
Israel's Magen David Adom emergency services said the 18-year-old, who had been trapped under the bus, was pronounced dead at the scene.
