
Israel is preparing for an expanded military offensive in Gaza
Israel has announced it will launch a new phase of its military offensive in Gaza and activate 60,000 additional reservists, as negotiators try to reach a ceasefire to end the 22-month war between Israel and Hamas.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Wednesday that Defense Minister Israel Katz has approved plans to launch new operations in one of the most populated areas of Gaza.
This comes at a time when human rights organizations warn that the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip could worsen further, as most residents have been displaced, entire neighborhoods have been destroyed and communities face the threat of famine.
Russian drone crashes in Poland
A military drone that crashed and exploded in a cornfield in eastern Poland early Wednesday was Russian, the Polish Defense Minister has said.
Police said the incident happened around 2 a.m. and burnt metal and plastic pieces were found near the village of Osiny.
As a result of the explosion, several windows of houses were broken, but there were no injuries.
Rain and humidity help fight fires in Spain
Wet weather and rain have brought relief to Spanish authorities as they battle the fires that have been raging across the country for weeks. So far, more than 391,000 hectares of forest have burned, according to data from the European Forest Fire Information System.
Although 40 fires are still active, recent rainfall, especially in the province of León, may help firefighters bring the situation under control and allow authorities to focus efforts in other areas.
On Wednesday, authorities announced that efforts to extinguish the fires were progressing well, thanks to improving weather conditions.
One dead, 19 injured after migrant boat capsizes near Mallorca
At least one person has died and 19 others have been injured after a boat carrying migrants from North Africa was found south of the Spanish island of Mallorca after almost a week at sea.
The white shirts provided first aid to 18 people, while three of them were transported to the hospital in serious condition.
The ship was discovered more than four kilometers off the southern coast of Mallorca after a private boat rescued a migrant from Sub-Saharan Africa, who alerted authorities to the boat he had been on.
An air and sea operation was then launched, where 11 migrants were found still on board and one body was found. Seven other people were rescued from the sea near the scene.
