Texas in mourning after floods, number of missing reaches 170
Shock has turned to pain in central Texas, where at least 120 people have died from flash floods, and more than 170 are still reported missing.
Photos of the victims, along with candles and flowers, now adorn a fence in the Hill Country, a tribute that reflects the magnitude of the disaster in the region.
Authorities said they were reviewing the missing persons lists, but that the numbers could change. Disaster recovery centers have also been set up for those affected, offering survivors a place to register for assistance and other services.
Trump vows to raise tariffs on Canada to 35%
US President Donald Trump said on Thursday he would raise tariffs on neighboring Canada to 35%.
The letter to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney marks a significant increase from the 25% tariffs imposed in March. He said the tariffs are intended to pressure Canada to stop the trafficking of fentanyl, despite limited evidence of trade practices he called unfair.
"I should mention that fentanyl trafficking is not the only problem we have with Canada, which has many policies and trade barriers, both tariff and non-tariff," Trump wrote.
The new tariffs are expected to come into effect from August 1.
Zelensky repeats his call for help
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a direct appeal for financial assistance at a meeting in Rome, saying: “We need funds.”
"We have found a solution, interceptor drones," Zelensky said.
This call comes after a serious attack by Russia on Kiev, where at least 2 people were killed and 16 were injured.
The attack set fires across the city and followed the heaviest airstrike since the start of the full-scale invasion.
A new village is being created in Gaza
A 300-member Palestinian militia has emerged in Gaza, aiming to liberate the Strip from Hamas and now says it has the support of Israel.
The group, called the Popular Forces, operates east of Rafah under the leadership of Yasser Abu Shabab, a Bedouin in his thirties who was imprisoned by Hamas for criminal activities before being released after the October 7 attacks.
According to exclusive comments to Euronews, the group was first formed in June 2024.
