Throughout the years, this tradition has remained a symbol of identity and unity for the inhabitants of Tropoja and the Highlands of Gjakova.
What is "K'cimi i Tropoja"?
Also known as "K'cim Veni", this dance is much more than a tradition: it is a living celebration that has been passed down from generation to generation, preserving the energy and identity of Tropoja and the Gjakova Highlands. With rhythmic movements accompanied by the sounds of drums, couplets and flutes, this dance is a symbol of joy and togetherness. In every performance, the traditional clothing and the red or yellow scarf are a reminder of our deep cultural roots.
"K'cimi i Tropoja" is part of the most important ceremonies of Albanian life, from weddings to local holidays, but it does not stop there. It is passionately transmitted from one generation to another, being taught even in schools. This UNESCO decision is a guarantee that this tradition will remain alive, preserved and promoted for generations to come.
How did K'cimi reach UNESCO?
This success did not come by chance. At the center of this achievement is the work of the "Kërcimi i Tropoja" Association, Tropoja Municipality and the Ministry of Economy, Culture and Innovation. With the support of the Albanian-American Development Foundation (AADF), a detailed dossier was prepared, which included field research, archival materials and testimonies of the local community.
This international recognition gives another dimension to Albanian culture, making Tropoja and its art known all over the world. With this step, "K'cimi i Tropoja" is no longer just an Albanian tradition - it is a heritage for all humanity.
