Britney Spears' request to remove her father, Jamie Spears, from custody has been met with a temporary hurdle by a court in Los Angeles, which has rejected the application.
Jamie Spears has been a co-caregiver since 2008, when the singer had mental health problems. He became her sole guardian in 2019 when attorney Andrew Wallet resigned.
"My client has informed me that she is afraid of her father," Britney Spears lawyer Samuel D. Ingham III told the judge. "She will not perform again if her father is responsible for her career."
However, at the court hearing, Judge Brenda Penny refused to suspend Jamie Spears from custody, although she did not rule out the possibility of seeking his removal or suspension in the future.
