At a news conference, the British Prime Minister told the nation that he "could not rely" on the hopes of a vaccine to fight Covid-19 and urged people not to "feel complacent during the blockade."
The Prime Minister said "that if and when the vaccine is ready, we will provide it", but he added:
"We have not yet seen complete safety data," although Pfizer CEO today confirmed that their vaccine has been proven to be 90% effective.
Mr Johnon said "the vaccine had removed a significant barrier, but it was still a long way off".
"It's still very, very early."
He added:
"This news caused a stir today, but we are still far away. We can not rely on this news as a solution. "
Pfizer today confirmed that their vaccine trial had exceeded experts' expectations after testing more than 43,500 people in six different countries.
They said:
"In total, we have produced 40,000,000 doses of candidate vaccine."
Dr. Jonathan Van-Tam said he was confident the news was a "truly important scientific discovery" and a major milestone.
He warned that "making vaccines is really difficult and many things can go wrong" during the production process.
"I hope it can prevent future waves, but we have to fight it to the end without a vaccine."
