Beyoncé covers in Vogue made history again

A 21-year-old photographer made history in British Vogue magazine, becoming the youngest person to realize the photo set in the magazine's 104-year history. Kennedy Carter, from North Carolina, photographed Beyoncé for the December edition, which features not one but three different covers. Kennedy has no family ties to Jay-Z (Shawn Carter).

Beyoncé specifically asked for a woman of color to take the photos, and together with Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful, they chose Kennedy, one who has long sought to highlight the overlooked beauties of people of African descent. Kennedy has been listening to Beyoncé since she was three years old.

Beyoncé's appearance in the magazine certainly comes accompanied by a rare interview, conducted by the editor-in-chief of British Vogue. In a Zoom communication with Edward Enninful, Beyoncé said she felt "absolutely changed" by the events of 2020. "My goal is to slow down a bit and remove some stressful things from my life," she said.

Beyoncé last appeared on the cover of British Vogue in 2013. In 2018, she appeared on the cover of Vogue in the US, talking about the difficulties of giving birth to twins in 2017 where among other things she insisted that Vogue hire an African-American photographer, 23-year-old Tyler Mitchell, to cover it, for the first time in the magazine's history.

Her mother, Tina Knowles-Lawson, has criticized Vogue in the US for the lack of African-American photographers.
