
It seems that there is no fixed time to consume the dinner meal, as it all depends on the routine of your daily life. Work, workload, the schedule of when you arrive home and when you eat dinner alone or with your family, so there are a lot of details that need to be considered.
"Ideally, dinner should be eaten at least three hours before bedtime," says nutritionist Sara Riehm. "This allows our meal times to match our circadian rhythm cycles and food to be digested as efficiently as possible."
Finding a normal dinner time also requires a consistent sleep schedule. "It's important to establish a regular sleep schedule that includes adequate time for rest, at least seven hours of sleep a night," says Riehm. “Then, count down from bedtime by at least three hours. This should be the time when you should eat your last meal.”
What are the benefits of eating dinner early?
"Eating dinner at least two to three hours before bed can help improve sleep quality and digestion," says nutritionist Samantha Cochrane. "Digestive problems can actually keep you awake if you eat too close to bedtime, while eating earlier prevents acid reflux or constipation."
There has also been some research showing that there are many benefits to letting your body "fast" overnight. "This doesn't mean skipping meals or restricting eating to certain times, but not eating a few hours before bed and throughout the night can be a good break for our digestive system," adds Cochrane.
This leads to better sleep quality, stronger metabolism and a normal weight maintenance.
