Life has taught us that people will not always reciprocate the interest we have in them. This is the reason why we do not sue those who put us in the friend zone - that is, they consider us only friends and do not see us as partners. However, a man in Singapore does not fully understand the concept of rejection.
K. Kawshigan filed two lawsuits against his friend Nora Tan, claiming she caused him "emotional trauma" after repeatedly rejecting his advances to have something more.
He is seeking more than $3 million in damages, claiming that this not only caused him trauma, but also damaged his reputation. K. Kawshigan claims the damages are to cover lost income and investments, as well as "rehabilitation and therapy programs to overcome lasting trauma," according to court documents.
The woman first met Kawshigan in 2016, according to court documents, and problems began in 2020 when they had different views on how they viewed their relationship. She saw him simply as a "friend", while he considered her "his best friend". She asked that interactions between them be reduced and emphasized the need to establish boundaries.
The first lawsuit was dropped after Nora agreed to attend counseling sessions with Kawshiga, hoping to regain their friendship as well as help her come to terms with her decision not to have anything more. After a year and a half, she stopped the sessions after realizing that Kawshigan would never change his mind.
In the second lawsuit filed by him, it is written that due to the fact that the woman accused him of harassment and had spied on other people, it damaged his reputation and caused him trauma, depression and affected his life.
Aware, a gender equality advocacy group, said it was sorry to hear such a story. "Women do not owe men their time or attention, much less friendship, love and sexual activity," the report reads.
"In a society that views women as 'less than,' many men believe they have a right to women's lives and bodies," Aware said. "Such concepts are part of this spectrum of male entitlement. We need to dismantle the toxic masculinity and patriarchal mindsets that support this behavior.”
The case will be considered on February 9.
