Ivanka Trump appeared with her husband Jared Kushner wearing a dress by Hubert de Givenchy originally designed for Audrey Hepburn in the 1954 film Sabrina. The dress was almost identical, while Ivanka made only a few changes from the legendary actress's original look, adding a pair of long black gloves and a diamond necklace.
But Ivanka's choice caused a lot of reactions as many people considered it an insult to the actress's memory.
On the other hand, a White House statement said that Ivanka was "privileged" to honor Hepburn, who she draws inspiration from.
But even Sean Hepburn Ferrer, the eldest son of the late Audrey Hepburn, commented on Ivanka Trump's choice to recreate an iconic dress of his mother during the "Liberty Ball" that followed Donald Trump's inauguration.
"It's not surprising that, growing up in a family that knew our mother and was familiar with her memory, Ivanka chose to draw inspiration from her," Sean said.
However, Sean hinted that his mother's worldview would align more with that of Marianne Budde, a progressive bishop who preached love for immigrants and the LGBTI+ community in office, than with Trump's ideology.
