An Italian woman described how an extreme rivalry in the workplace nearly took her life.
Alice Bordon, the target of the plot, told La Stampa newspaper that she had always trusted her colleague and was still surprised that she had tried to "eliminate" her by throwing sedatives in her coffee, so that she would feel drowsy and not perform. good at work.
The former colleague, Mariangela Cerrato, was sentenced this week to four years in prison. The court ruled that she had wanted to discredit Alice in the eyes of the company bosses.
The coffee plot dates back to October 2017. As always, Mariangela bought her colleagues coffee from a bar near their office in Bra, a town in Piedmont. "I would usually drink it more slowly, but I returned it that day with a sip," she said. Afterwards, Alice lost her balance as she walked towards her desk. "Everything was black, I felt like I was swimming."
Alice had the same reaction even after drinking some cappuccinos bought by Mariangela. In another case, he crashed the car into a wall.
Only for Christmas of the same year did her case become suspicious. "She had taken a few days off and during that time I was fine," Alice said. "I thought there was no connection between coffee and health crises. "A neurologist advised me not to drink it for a month and I did."
A few months later, she accepted another cappuccino from Mariangela, but drank only half. "I put the other half in a test tube and the tests found that it contained 10 times the amount of sedative that is usually advised."
Mariangela was later caught red-handed. "With the police involved, we managed to stop him while he was dumping the medicine in my cafe."
