Quarantine was a big ordeal for the whole globe. In Albania we are realizing its effect only these days, when we have all been liberated from isolation and the number of infected people has increased. I am not an expert to conclude whether the closure should have been done or not, but I can say that at least in Albania, based on the statistics of that period and the conclusion of the World Health Organization (WHO), the situation was successfully managed.
So much so that we took advantage of all the free time that came our way to complain that nothing big was happening. In the world of social media, when the truth is called what is clicked the most, in the face of a virus with a completely unknown savagery for the whole globe, conspiracies and paranoia took the main place.
But this is good news for Albania. Any suspicion that "there is nothing here, it is a lie" showed that the attempt to keep the virus under control was successful thanks to two heroes.
The first is the doctor, the one who was found on the front line of the war against coronavirus. No matter how much we applaud the afternoons from the balconies of our homes, none of us will fully understand these heroes who were quarantined in the Infectious Diseases environment, waiting and following calmly (seemingly) and professionally with dozens of patients. We did not feel their anxiety, we did not hear and we saw no one to repent of the Hippocratic oath. They were at war more than us, or rather, they fought for us.
But doctors would not have the calm and concentration to properly fight pandemic if it were not for a second hero, Air Albania.
Without much fuss, although in a difficult business moment, Air Albania from a line of commercial flights, was fully invested in a humanitarian service. It did not take into account the crisis that gripped all the world's routes with the closure of airports, did not devise any marketing strategy, nor did it sit down to analyze its costs in terms of long-term profits. From the first day of quarantine, Air Albania was ready for any kind of assistance, not interrupting flights at any time to enable hospitals with a continuous supply of medicines and medical equipment, as well as helping to repatriate all Albanians left out because of quarantine.
All their human resources were engaged 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to carry out flight operations "under the darkness" of information against this new enemy, for a high humanitarian goal against Albania.
Albanian hospitals did not feel at any moment the crises they felt in the hospitals of Italy or Spain; whoever wanted to return from the place where he was quarantined returned, and all the paranoia that gripped us in the early days of the quarantine that we could not afford this pandemic was extinguished within a few days.
That?s why it?s good news when people and portals write that nothing big happened here to take such extreme measures. Today, with the growing number of infected people, we understand that Covid-19 was there in February, March and April. But it would have been an even higher figure, perhaps we would have suffered an even worse crisis than that of our neighbor with more advanced medicine, if it weren't for the heroes like doctors and Air Albania who worked quietly. and in self-sacrifice to provide us with peace of mind and to offer us all the conditions for us to "spoil" and think that this whole crisis was exaggerated.
