After a golden era of sky-high prices and insane demand, the Labubu phenomenon seems to be fading. As Forbes reports , online prices for these dolls have dropped to just $20 a piece, a significant drop from their peak. They will likely soon have to make way for the next accessory to grab attention. After all, the global fashion market must move on.
Labubu experienced its peak of fame, with some collectible versions of them fetching up to $2,000 for a single toy. But now, it seems a new name is on the horizon: according to Forbes, the potential successor could be another furry doll, the Hirono Living Wild Doll, which is rapidly gaining popularity.
The doll first gained attention after it was seen in the hands of Kim Taehyung, a member of the popular South Korean boy band BTS. Since then, interest in the Living Will Doll has skyrocketed, and some versions of the doll are now being resold on eBay for around $175, three times its original price.
As a reminder, Labubu was created by artist Kasing Lung about ten years ago, and was first introduced in his illustrated book Monster Trilogy. In 2019, Pop Mart bought the rights to the design and turned them into collectible toys, turning them into a global craze.
Since then, we've seen celebrities like Rihanna, Dua Lipa, and many social media influencers wearing these toys, while their unboxing videos on TikTok sparked a huge trend.
