The cast of "Friends" actors confirmed a few days ago that they would be back, and NBC News has learned that this is a special non-script episode that will air on HBO Max, the streaming service of WarnerMedia, HBO's parent company.
The special episode will be accessible to viewers when the HBO Max launches in May 2020. The same service will upload all 236 episodes of "Friends" - which left Netflix at the end of 2019.
The six characters will return to Stage 24, where most of the original series was filmed.
"We believe we can call this 'The One Where They All Got Back Together' - we've done bash with David Schwimmer, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc. , Lisa Kudrow and Matthew Perry for a special episode that will be programmed alongside all the episodes of 'Friends,' "said Kevin Reilly, HBO's head of content and president of TBS, TNT and truTV.
?I was introduced to 'Friends' when it was in its early stages of development and had the opportunity to work with them years later, and I was very pleased to see that it made for itself several generations. We think this special episode will respond to new and older fans, ?Reilly added.
The new episode will be directed by Ben Winston, who will also serve as executive producer alongside Kevin Bright, Martha Kauffman and David Krane.
