Elon Musk has broken the world record for the largest loss of personal wealth in history, according to a Guinness World Records report.
The tech billionaire has lost roughly $182 billion since November 2021, though other sources suggest it could actually be closer to $200 billion.
"Musk's net worth fell from a peak of $320 billion in 2021 to $138 billion as of January 2023, largely due to the underperformance of Tesla stock," Guinness wrote, citing figures obtained by Forbes.
Elon Musk's loss surpassed the previous record of $58.6 billion set by Japanese tech investor Masayoshi Son in 2000.
In December, the Tesla founder was dethroned as the world's richest man. Bernard Arnault, CEO of French luxury goods conglomerate LVMH, which owns fashion brand Louis Vuitton, came in first place.
Forbes estimates as of Jan. 12 put Arnault's net worth at $203.7 billion and Musk's at $146.5 billion.
